Atheeq Ur Rahman became the first impact player in the history of the Tamil Nadu Premier League during the 2023 season opener between Lyca Kovai Kings and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans. Representing Kovai Kings, he walked into bat in the 13th when the fourth wicket fell after U Mukilesh was dismissed leg-before by Sai Kishore. Atheeq replaced B Sachin in LKK’s playing XI and then went on to score 9(10) thus becoming the first-ever impact player in TNPL.
Rahman was before got out bowled in the 15th over by India International Vijay Shankar. Born in Andaman and Nicobar, he was picked up by the Lyca Kovai Kings in the 2023 TNPL Auction for 1.95 lakhs. He also scored a scintillating half-century against MCC in the TNCA First Division League while representing Alwarpet CC in February, earlier this year.
