Septain Rahraja is a 35-year-old Indonesian football player who lost his life unfortunately while playing for 2 FLO FC Bandung team against FBI Subang at the Siliwangi Stadium in Bandung, West Java on 10th February after being struck by lightning at around 4:20 PM (local time) during a friendly match in Singapore.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time such a tragic incident has occurred in the country. Almost a year ago, a young footballer from Bojonegoro also suffered a lightning strike at the same stadium during the Soeratin U-13 Cup in 2023, where the young player experienced a cardiac arrest after being struck by lightning and was immediately rushed to the Ibnu Sina Hospital in Bojonegoro. Thankfully, he was able to recover consciousness after receiving prompt medical treatment.
The cases of footballers being struck by lightning have been reported in various parts of the world, with Brazil being particularly affected. The news of Raharja’s untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the football community, as the fans, local players and coaches in Singapore are mourning the death of this football player. After the incident, several Indonesian teams maintained a moment of silence in memory of Septain Rahraja.
A similar incident happened in India also during August 2022, where a 19-year-old youth was killed after lightning struck him during a football match In Hazari village in the Gomia district of Jharkhand. The deceased was identified as Vishant, a resident of Hazari village. He was immediately taken to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead at the arrival.
