Sports, especially, cricket in India gets a lot of attention and love from the people of the country. This love for the game has turned cricketers into celebrities. While the likes of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli are almost worshipped in the country, young cricketers have also started garnering significant attention.
Also, with a smartphone easily accessible to almost every citizen of the country, Google is not out of reach of Indians. The search engine is asked anything and everything. From how to cook chicken curry to who is the girl dancing on ‘Mera Dil ye Pukaare’, Indians ask Google everything. While most feel that everything vanishes when they clear the history, Google keeps track of every activity.
The company then reveals a list of the most searched things, people, and places on its search engine in a calendar year. As Google Trends has revealed the list for the year 2022, it also mentioned who were the top ten most-searched people in India. As usual, there were two names related to cricket.
To everyone’s surprise, it was neither MS Dhoni nor Virat Kohli in the list of most-searched people on Google in India. It was former IPL Chairman Lalit Modi and India spinner Pravin Tambe. While Lalit Modi was the fourth most-searched person on Google in 2022, Pravin Tambe was ninth on the list. Meanwhile, politician Nupur Sharma was the first name on the list featuring UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (3rd) and Tajikistani Abdu Rozik (7th).
Indian Premier League - most searched term
Coming to the most searched term on Google in 2022, it was the Indian Premier League (IPL). CoWIN was the second-most searched term on Google in India. FIFA World Cup, Asia Cup, ICC T20 World Cup, Brahmastra: Part One- Shiva, e-SHRAM Card, Commonwealth Games, KGF: Chapter 2, and Indian Super League respectively were the rest of the most-searched terms in 2022.
