The 655-member strong contingent had a dream start to the Asian Games 2023. The second day of the 19th edition of the Games saw India clinch five medals, aiming for a 100-plus tally in this season.

It was the 10m Air Rifle women’s trio of Ramita Jindal, Mehuli Ghosh and Ashi Chouksey who opened the medal tally for India at the quadrennial games. The Indian trio sealed the silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle on Sunday, 24th September 2023 with a score of 1886. While Ramita scored 631.9, Mehuli finished with the score of 630.8 and Ashi scoring 623.3.

Additionally, it was China who finished at the top with 1896.6 while Mongolia took the bronze in 10m air rifle with 1880 points.

 

Apart from the women’s 10m air rifle trio, India bagged two more silver medals on the second day after the Games were officially announced open. The Indian men’s pair of Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh secured the silver medal in a historic finish in Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls event in rowing. The India duo sealed the silver after they had previously finished 11th at the Tokyo Olympics, clocking impressive six minutes and 28.18 seconds in Final A.

The Indian rowing team also finished with a silver in Men’s Eight event earlier on Sunday, 24th September. They finished second behind China with a timing of 5:43:01.
