The match 64th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is currently underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between hosts Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), with the visitors batting first on a pitch with some assistance for the pacers. For this away clash, LSG made a big change in their playing XI, dropping Digvesh Rathi in favour of Shahbaz Ahmed after bowing out from the race to the playoffs of IPL 2025 recently.
After losing the toss and getting put into bat first, Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants also spoke about wanting to chase down a total just like the hosts Gujarat Titans. While Pant wasn’t able to name the changes in the playing lineup of LSG at toss time, Digvesh Rathi’s name wasn’t in it, and the reason for his non-inclusion was the breach of the ICC Code of Conduct from him in the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), for which he got suspended for a match.
While GT have already made the IPL 2025 playoffs, they still need to win this match against LSG, to give themselves the best chance to finish in the top two, which will give them two cracks at reaching the final of the tournament later on. LSG, on the other side, haven’t played well consistently enough, which is why they are languishing in the bottom half of the standings, but a victory tonight could help them end the tournament on a high.
