In the official Team India squad announcement from the BCCI for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Rinku Singh was one of the most notable omissions. The left-handed middle-order batter had performances in the shortest format in the build-up to the T20 World Cup 2024, but still, the Indian selectors didn’t pick him in the 15-member squad.
Now the question arises as to why Rinku Singh isn’t selected in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. As per the SportsTiger sources, Rinku Singh got excluded from the main squad because he isn't bowling unlike some of his compatriots, who were picked ahead of him.
A lot of cricket experts weighed-in on what they thought was the reason for Rinku Singh missing out on playing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to happen in the Caribbean and the USA from June 1 to 29. Sunil Gavaskar told Sports Today, “Maybe (Rinku Singh) his form in this particular edition of the IPL hasn't been great. He hasn't had that many opportunities, maybe that's the reason why they've (selectors) not picked him.”
Ian Bishop, one of the greatest cricket commentators of all-time, spoke about Rinku Singh’s omission from the T20 World Cup squad and said to Star Sports, “So, if you're talking about surprises, I think Rinku Singh has done enough in international cricket. He averages well over 60 or 70 in T20Is to hold a place in the 15."
"So, that's the only thing that had my ears sticking up. So I'm only saying that the extra spinner, someone like Axar (Patel), has been preferred to Rinku (Singh),” he added.
Moreover, Rohit Sharma will captain India’s 15-member squad in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which included players like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah, among others.
