Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has explained why the Indian team can’t take England’s Bazball approach in Test cricket. The Three Lions pulled off a great comeback in the recent Ashes 2023 after being 2-0 and levelled the series 2-2 with two fighting victories. Hence the series against Australia, England’s Test assignment will be a tour to India in 2024.

Similarly, with England’s success from Bazball, there have been many questions regarding the cricketing world adapting to this aggressive approach moving forward. But refuting these speculations, R Ashwin has talked about how India can’t take up this aggressive approach by addressing the current system of the team. Ashwin feels that the team wouldn’t back a player, who ‘throws his bat at everything’ and fails to score runs leading to a few defeats.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, “We are playing Test cricket very well. But we will go through a transition soon. And things won’t be easy during that phase. There will be a few issues here and there. But let’s assume India adopts Bazball during this phase. Let us assume a player throws his bat at everything like Harry Brook and gets out and we lose two Test matches. What will we do? Will we back Bazball and the players?.”
Rather the off-spinner believes that the team will make big changes as the team has managed to win games by playing in a certain manner. The no. 1 Test bowler in the world also addressed how the entire English Test cricket pecking order has agreed to support the approach. He then said, “We will drop at least four players from our playing XI. That’s how our culture has always been.

“We can’t copy others style of play just because it worked for them. It works for them because their management is fully in with this style of play, their selectors back the players to play this way. In fact, even their crowd and Test match-watching public are backing the team in this process. But we can’t do this.”
