Why was Harshal Patel’s run-out appeal at non-striker’s end turned down in match against LSG?

As per the rules, the bowler cannot run out the batter at the non-striker’s end if the bowler completes the bowling action.

The match number 15 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) which was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants went down to the wire. However, it was the KL Rahul-led side who came out victorious on the final ball of the match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

 

The second last delivery of the match saw RCB pacer Harshal Patel mankad Ravi Bishnoi, who was at the non-striker’s end. In this attempt, Patel could not get the bails of the stumps due to the pace. Additionally, this delivery and attempt was nullified by the umpire.

 

As per the rules, the bowler cannot run out the batter at the non-striker’s end if the bowler completes the bowling action. In order to run out  at the non-striker’s end, the bowler also needs to be inside the crease. However, in this match between RCB and LSG, Patel was outside the crease and also completed his bowling action, thus the run-out attempt being denied.

Talking about the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore posted 212 in their 20 overs quota after being invited to bat first. While Virat Kohli scored his second half century in the ongoing edition, skipper Faf du Plessis played a captain’s knock (79 off 46) with Maxwell also contributing with 59 off 29 deliveries.

 

However, Nicholas Pooran went on to smash the fastest fifty in the ongoing season, along with Marcus Stoinis also scoring 65 off 30 balls to take the side home. In a close match, LSG won their third game in the ongoing season, beating RCB by 1 wicket.
