There are several reports coming that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to get a new President. This means that the current President Roger Binny will ending his term soon and someone else will take over the chair soon. However, before the President take charge, the BCCI will need someone to fill the chair for an interim period.
Rajeev Shukla, who is currently the vice President of the BCCI can be seen taking over the position as the board President soon for a limited period. As reported by India Today, Roger Binny will turn 70 on July 19, which is beyond the age limit to hold the position as per the board’s constitution. This means that the BCCI is set to conduct elections to appoint a new President and Rajeev Shukla will act as acting President for three months before someone takes over the role permanently.
BCCI to get new President soon
Roger Binny, member of the 1983 World Cup winning team was appointed as a BCCI President replacing Sourav Ganguly in 2022. Binny has played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs, taking124 wickets in both the formats combined. He also played a crucial role in India’s 1983 World Cup triumph being the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 18 scalps.
Talking about Rajeev Shukla was appointed the vice President of the BCCI in 2020. Before that, he also served as Secretary Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) till 2017 and has served as the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) till 2018.
Now, the BCCI is set to get a President after Roger Binny turns 70 years old next month. Although, Rajeev Shukla will take the chair for an interim period, a new face will be seen taking over the role later in the year.
