Former England captain Michael Vaughan has made a huge statement regarding current England Test skipper Joe Root. Vaughan said that the current Test match between the Three Lions and the West Indies could be Root's last one as the captain. His remark comes after England lead by just 10 runs with just 2 wickets remaining in the second innings of the third and the final Test match of the West Indies tour.
Notably, since a victory in Chennai against India last year, England have tasted just one win in as many as 17 Tests.
"I just feel that this could be his last Test match as captain. I can just see it in his face, I’ve been in that position. When it goes, and he’s been the captain for such a long period of time, it might just starting to come to an end for him," Vaughan said while speaking on BT Sport.
Earlier Root had himself hinted that he could be asked to vacate England's Test captain position.
"I think I’m the right man to take the team forward. But, if the head coach comes in and thinks differently, that’s fine, that’s their decision,"Joe Root was quoted by Mirror.
"I’m a massive England fan. I just want to see us do well. So I’ll keep doing everything I can to make us as good as we can be and if that means in time I’m no longer in this position, I’ll still do everything I can to help this team and to try to take us to be the best team in the world. That will never change," he added.
Notably, the first two Test matches had ended in a draw while the ongoing game is seemingly going in favour of the home team.
