The Babar Azam-led Pakistan will take on their arch-nemesis and near neighbours India on Sunday, June 9 in the T20 World Cup 2024. The two nations will take the field at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York after their last appearance coming in 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

While the Men in Blue are coming into this match after a dominating eight-wicket win against Ireland in their tournament opener, Pakistan hasn’t yet ticked off their campaign in the right way as they were thumped by co-hosts USA. To add more worries, the Men in Green were without their star all-rounder Imad Wasim. However, this might not be the case as they take on India in a high-octane clash.

Pakistan Head Coach Gary Kristen on the eve of the India versus Pakistan clash confirmed that Wasim has passed the fitness test and might feature in the upcoming match. However, his inclusion in the side will be confirmed on the game day, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did share a video of him bowling in the nets.

The Pakistan all-rounder felt some “discomfort in his right rib cage” and was thus left out in the opening game against USA. Moreover, the Men in Green went with out-of-form Azam Khan and Shadab Khan as the only specialist spinner, despite concerns to perform with the ball.

The Babar Azam-led Pakistan is placed in Group A, alongside India, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts USA. However, the team currently sits at fourth place, after USA, India and Canada, with a loss, which came against co-hosts USA in their opening match.
