It was a heartbreak for some fans while a moment to cherish for a few others. The Day 1 of FIFA World Cup 2022 Quarterfinals got a mixed reaction on some faces while some dreams were shattered when Brazil knocked out of the tournament after losing to Croatia in penalties.

As we head to Day 2 of the Quarterfinals action, it will be Morocco going against Portugal in the first game of the day, while England will take on France in an all-important game. Talking about the England camp, Raheem Sterling who returned to England following a robbery  at his home, remained  out of the side’s RO16 match against Senegal.

The big question of his return to Qatar remained under the clouds but the 28-year-old made his comeback and was seen in Three Lions training ahead of their Quarterfinal game against France. The England manager Gareth Southgate who addressed the media ahead of this do-or-die game, however confirmed that “he’ll be involved”.

“It’s great that he’s back with us, first and foremost. He wanted to train today”, Southgate said. “He’ll be involved tomorrow but what that looks like, we have to decide because we haven’t seen him on the training pitch,” he added.

“It’s really hard to tell what his level is, as he’s not been with us, in terms of on the pitch, since Saturday. We’ll have to assess that but really pleased he’s back and of course he’s an important player for us.”

England will take on France in the FIFA World Cup 2022 Quarterfinal tonight (12:30 AM IST) at the Al Bayt Stadium. The winner of this match will go head-to-head with the winner of Morocco vs Portugal in the semifinal of the tournament. Other than these teams, Croatia and Argentina have already sealed the semifinal berth and will lock horns on December 15 (12:30 AM IST) at the Lusail Stadium.
