Rashid Khan, who is recovering from back surgery, has been picked by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) for the three-match T20I series against India. But, with the 25-year-old not declared fully fit as of yet, his participation is in doubt in regards to the first T20I of the series at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on January 11.

ACB has named Ibrahim Zadran as the captain of the Afghanistan cricket team for the series against India, although Rashid Khan is the regular T20I captain, and he is in the squad. This is one of the tell-tale signs that the bowling all-rounder might not participate in any of the three matches in the T20I series this January.
Notably, Rashid Khan has recently posted a video of himself practising in the nets on his official Instagram account, talking about how much he missed cricket after undergoing back surgery just days removed from the ODI World Cup 2023. As one of the most prolific performers in Afghanistan's cricket history, he is expected to be a major miss for his national team against a very formidable Indian team.
Rashid Khan has already missed out on playing a T20I series against the United Arab Emirates and the Big Bash League while recovering from back surgery. With a lack of cricket in the build-up to the T20I series against India, he is likely going to skip playing any of the three matches.
