In a huge development, Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas have been fined for their conduct during the third-round match at Wimbledon. As per reports, Greek Tsitsipas has been fined USD 10,000 for losing his composure and smashing the ball into the crowd, while Kyrgios was slapped with USD 4,000 for an audible obscenity. Notably, the 27-yer-old Kyrgios recovered from a set down to beat Kyrgios 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7) and advanced into the quarter-final stage.
Post-match, both the player admitted their wrongdoing as Tsitsipas termed Kyrgios' behaviour as 'bully.' "Yeah, it's constant bullying, that's what he does. He bullies the opponent. He was probably a bully at school himself," said the Greek in a post-match press conference.
He further admitted that he does not like bullies and when people try to put other people down. Although, Tsitsipas claimed that the Australian has some good traits in his character but his evil side is more dominant. "If he is exposed to the world, he might do more harm than good to society," said Tsitsipas.
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas apologised for losing control and added that it was frustrating that the umpires did not intervene as they should have come harder on Kyrgios. He also confessed that he was so agitated with his opponent that he tried to hit on his head with a smash in the third set.
"I was aiming at his body, but I missed by a lot. I was never trained to play like this but I also cannot sit and act like a robot. I was there doing my job but when constant abuse and bullying behaviour comes from another end, it gets really difficult to stay ignorant," he said.
On the other hand, Kyrgios, termed his opponent soft as he stated that 'coming here in the presser and call me bully is too soft.' "I don't know how I bullied him. He was the one hitting the ball at me, he was the one that hit a spectator, he was the one who almost hit the spectator. I hardly did another to provoke him and was not at all disrespectful," Kyrgios claimed in a post-match press conference. Notably, Kyrgios had pointed out that Tsitsipas hit a ball close to a spectator's head after losing the second set.
