On Sunday, February 2, India defeated South Africa in a convincing manner by nine wickets with 52 balls to spare, to win the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 trophy at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. In the grand finale, Indian bowlers delivered an exceptional team performance to bowl out South Africa for 82 runs before a couple of unbeaten innings from Gongadi Trisha and Sanika Chalke was more than enough to overhaul the runs with great ease, to defend their title successfully.

Notably, after winning the toss, captain of South Africa, Kayla Reyneke, decided to bat first, but they had a poor start in the power play, losing three of their top batters, including Jemma Botha, who had struck 16 runs in 14 balls. Kayla Reyneke scored just seven runs in 21 balls before her dismissal to Indian all-rounder Gongadi Trisha, which put South Africa in a real tough spot at 40/4 in the 12 over of their innings.

Mieke van Vroost provided some impetus to the South African batting effort, scoring 23 runs in 18 balls, but the rest of the batters either faced a lot of deliveries for very little amount of runs or got dismissed early, which meant that they were all out for 82 runs in exactly 20 overs. Gongadi Trisha was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/15, while the likes of Aayushi Shukla and Parunika Sisodia took two wickets each, conceding runs under three to the over.

In pursuit of an easy target, to retain their Women’s U19 T20 World Cup title, Indian opener G Kamalini was dismissed for eight runs in 13 balls to Kayla Reyneke, but it was the only wicket taken by the South Africans during the afternoon. Gongadi Trisha scored unbeaten 44 runs in 33 balls with eight fours and Sanika Chalke was at the other end with her after scoring 26 runs in 22 balls with four fours, to take India across the finish line for yet another world title in the under-19 cricket.

For her outstanding performance right throughout, Gongadi Trisha was given the player of the tournament award apart from winning the player of the final award as well.
