On Saturday, December 7, in the Game 10 of the World Chess Championship 2024 match, Indian GM Dommaraju Gukesh, who is challenging for the title, agreed to a draw with world champion Ding Liren, the Chinese GM, following a 36-move battle in Singapore. After the seventh straight drawn game between Dommaraju Gukesh and Ding Liren, both the players are level on five points a piece with just four games remaining in the title match.

In the Game 10 of the World Chess Championship 2024 match, Ding Liren was hesitant about his first move before deciding to repeat the 1.d4, going into the London System, which led to him attaining a slight edge over Dommaraju Gukesh. Despite the risk-free nature of his position, Ding wasn’t able to put Gukesh under any real strife before both the players agreed to a draw, prior to the first time control.

I don't think there is waiting for mistake: Dommaraju Gukesh

After earning quite an easy draw in Game 10 of the World Chess Championship 2024 match, Dommaraju Gukesh was quoted as saying, as per the Times of India, “I don't think there is waiting for mistake. There are mistakes happening on board every time. We both try to outwit each other, we both make mistakes. It is hard to not make mistakes in chess. Nowadays, white and black colour doesn’t make a huge difference. It’s just four more very interesting games to go.”

Ding Liren, who would have relished a break prior to this game after being put under pressure in the World Chess Championship 2024 match, spoke about how he and his opponent are trying to create winning chances for themselves rather than relying on mistakes. He remarked, “Every game we are hoping for create chances ourselves, not hoping the opponent will do some mistakes. Otherwise we would play some tricks which are not objectively good, but to check the opponent.”
