The US Open organisers revealed on Monday that the world number two Alexander Zverev has withdrawn from the year's final Grand Slam. Zverev is currently undergoing recovery from his ankle surgery and is expected to represent Germany in the Davis Cup, starting in September.

During the French Open 2022, the 25-year-old German damaged his ligaments in the right ankle against Spain's Rafael Nadal in the semifinal and eventually underwent a surgery in June.

In a brief statement, US Open organisers said, "Alexander Zverev has withdrawn from the US Open. Get well soon, Alex!"

Before the 2022 Roland Garros semifinal injury, Zverev had played 27 consecutive Grand Slam main draws since his debut in 2015. The injury had also forced him to miss the Wimbledon championship earlier this year.

The 24-year-old American Stefan Kozlov is set to replace Zverev into the main draw, marking his debut in the year's final grand slam main draw after failing to qualify on the last six occasions.

Zverev reached the finals at the Flushing Meadows in the 2020 US Open and knocked out in the semifinal next year. The final Grand Slam of 2022 will start from August 29 while the qualifying matches will take place from August 23.
