India’s number one female chess player and Grandmaster Koneru Humpy has confirmed her participation in the upcoming Norway Chess Women tournament in 2025. Currently ranked world number six, Humpy will be seen making her return in the prestigious tournament and will be looking to continue her legacy in women’s chess. With her recent triumphs in Olympiad, Asian Games, and Asian Championships, Humpy has already established herself as one of the finest women’s chess players in the world.

Koneru Humpy had a great time in chess in the last few years, where she won the two Rapid Chess Championship titles in 2019 and 2024 respectively. Apart from that, Humpy was also named BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year in 2020. She is one of only two women in history to surpass a elo rating of 2600 and has continued to inspire generations over the years.

Koneru Humpy also showed her excitement for the 2025 Norway Chess Women tournament and said that it’s her honour to participate in the prestigious tournament. "It's an honour to play in the prestigious Norway Chess Women tournament," Humpy was quoted as saying by India Today. “Self-disciplined,” Humpy further said when asked to describe herself. 

Koneru Humpy is now being considered as one of the strongest contenders to win the tournament. Founder and Tournament Director of Norway Chess, Kjell Madland also said that they are excited to have Humpy for the upcoming edition for the tournament. The much-awaited tournament is scheduled to take place from May 26 to June 6. “Humpy’s achievements speak volumes, and we are delighted to welcome her back to Norway Chess Women 2025,” Kjell Madland said.
