The summit clash of Test cricket, known as the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023, will be contested between Australia and India from June 7 onwards, at The Oval in London. These two top teams in the Test arena currently, played the recent edition of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), in which Team India defeated Australia by 2-1 scoreline at home after four gruelling matches. In the last few years, the Indian cricket team has had an upper hand in the Test format over the Australians, but for the WTC final, in English conditions, they will have to be on their game from ball one to have the best possible chance of winning their first ICC trophy in over 10 years.
Australia's batting lineup has been spearheaded by their in-form opener Usman Khawaja, the world number one Test batter Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith. The bulk of runs scored by these three gentlemen in the last WTC cycle from 2021-23, has been the primary reason as to why the Aussies are in the grand finale of the tournament. In the bowling side of things, captain Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon have been two of the most successful Test bowlers for the national team in the last couple of years.
Meanwhile, the batting lineup of Team India has been taken forward by their captain Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and the wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant in the WTC cycle 2021-23, who is currently recovering from injuries sustained late last year. In the recent past, the two of the most experienced batters for India, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara have returned to form, which is a great sign for the team management as they get ready to take part in the tournament final. Talking about the Indian bowling department, Mohammed Shami has been exemplary with the ball in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, while spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are amongst the wickets in Test cricket as well.
