West Indies Kieron Pollard became only the third player in the world to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket. After the explosive all-rounder took Akila Dananjaya to the cleaners in Antigua, he joined the elite club of Yuvraj Singh and Herschelle Gibbs to achieve this remarkable feat.

Welcome to the Club: Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh, who smashed six sixes off Stuart Broad’s over during 2007 T20 World Cup, was rightfully delighted after the Windies skipper achieved this rare achievement. He tweeted, “You Beauty” and also added six stars to the post, representing Pollard’s mammoth sixes.

Apart from Pollard and Yuvraj, the only other player to have achieved this feat was South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs. The swashbuckling cricketer was supposedly the first player to do so after he had hit six sixes off Dutch bowler Dan van Bunge during 2007 ODI World Cup.

The exclusive Mumbai Indians’ club

Incidentally, all the three players have one thing in common - Mumbai Indians. All the three players have been associated with one of the most successful franchises in Indian Premier League. Kieron Pollard has been playing for the Mumbai franchise since 2010. On the other hand, Herschelle Gibbs (2012) and Yuvraj Singh (2019) have also donned the MI jersey in IPL.

After Pollard’s heroics against Sri Lanka, Herschelle Gibbs was quick to point out this unique relation between the three players.

Notably, both Gibbs and Pollard achieved this unique accomplishment in the month of March. While Gibbs did it in on March 16, 2007, Pollard produced the magic on March 3, 2021.
