Nice vs Marseille Mass Brawl: Five spectators taken into police custody following crowd trouble

When Marseille travelled to the Allianz Riviera to lock horns with Nice in their previous encounter, the match was suspended, courtesy to the home fans invading the pitch in order to confront the away players. Throughout the entire game, it seemed like Nice fans were determined to harm players of Marseille as they kept throwing objects at them. However, in the 74th minute, Dimitri Payet returned the favor which resulted in one of the most heated and explosive crowd brawls in the history of Ligue 1.

In the spoken about minute, Payet seemed to have thrown back a bottle thrown towards him into the home stands as he was all set to take a corner kick. This resulted in the home fans getting annoyed and deciding to break through the billboards in order to confront the Marseille team and Payet in particular. To add to the misery of this accident, an over-aggressive coach seemed to have connected devastating punches on the face of a supporter in the chaos as well.

However according to the latest reports from Nice-Martin, it has come to the knowledge of all football fans that five culprits have been taken into custody following the mass brawl at Nice vs Marseille fixture. All of these five spectators are expected to be a part of the pitch invasion. The local magistrate has however decided upon more arrests being done and all those who are taken into custody should be detained and punished up to a punishment entitled to one-year of imprisonment.

The home fans who attempted to kick and physically cause harm to Payet will appear in the court on September 22 as per the latest reports from Nice. However the spoken about culprits are not being held in police custody, but are released under legal supervision.

Talking about the particular incident, after the match was suspended Marseille was awarded an automatic 3-0 win according to the rules stipulated by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP).

Having said that, this was not the only brawl Marseille was involved in this very season. Two weeks ago their match against Montpellier was also briefly halted because of fan throwing objects at away players.
