After Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, the points table was suddenly opened up with Mumbai Indians being provided with a golden opportunity to climb up. However, things did not really go according to the plan for the five-time champions as they produced a lacklustre performance in Sharjah on Saturday.
It all started with DC skipper Rishabh Pant putting MI to bat first on a challenging wicket. The batsmen had no answers to some brilliant bowling from Axar Patel and Avesh Khan as they could only post a total of 129/8 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Co. did try to make things interesting in the second innings but Shreyas Iyer's calm head took Delhi over the line quite comfortably in the end.
Mumbai find themselves in a tricky position
As a result of the defeat, Mumbai Indians now find themselves in a very tricky position with 5 wins in 12 matches. There are now level on points with Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings, with a much inferior net run rate. Qualifying for the playoffs will be a challenge for Rohit Sharma's side now, which is why fans did not miss out on the opportunity to troll them after the match.
