Australia put up a spirited show in the final of T20 World Cup 2021 to lift their first-ever title at the event. The importance of the victory was evident soon after Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs as the entire Australia squad rushed to the pitch to celebrate the unprecedented feat. In fact, the duo of Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa invaded the playing area even before the ball had reached to the boundary line.

At the start of the tournament, Australia were not considered as favourites for the title by many, the team not only proved such critics wrong but also saw the nation ending its 14-year-long wait. From taking their emotions out to doing the shoe celebration, the Aussies certainly did every possible thing a champion team does after bagging a world title.

Three Australian players selected in ICC's squad

David Warner was awarded the man of the match prize for his sensational form throughout the series. However, there were some more players including the likes of Trent Boult and Babar Azam, who put terrific performances one after another for their respective teams. Keeping the form and contribution of such players in mind, ICC has announced the Team of the Tournament. Notably, not a single Indian player could make it to the squad. The 11-player team consists of three Australian players, two from England, two from South Africa, two from Sri Lanka and one each from New Zealand and Pakistan.

The team announced by ICC consists of Warner and Jos Buttler at the top, while Babar — the top-scorer in the recently-concluded world event — has been assigned the role of number 3 batter. Emerging Sri Lanka star Charith Asalanka, who scored 231 runs across 6 innings in the tournament, wins the number 4 spot with Aiden Markram following him at number 5. Moeen Ali and Wanindu Hasaranga have been selected as the spin all-rounders, while Adam Zampa finds a place as a pure leg-spinner. Pacers Josh Hazlewood, Trent Boult, and Anrich Nortje complete the squad with Shaheen Afridi being the 12th man.
