Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani opened up on the update of Asia Cup 2021. Earlier reports stated that the 2021 edition of the Asia Cup will be held in June. But, with PCB deciding to host the remaining matches of PSL later in June, the fate of the tournament still remains uncertain.

2021 Asia Cup could be postponed to 2023

With Pakistan being dubious for Asia Cup 2021, PCB Chairman Mani confirmed that Sri Lanka will host the tournament in 2022. “Sri Lanka will host Asia Cup in 2022 and Pakistan will host Asia Cup in 2023 - there is no space to conduct Asia Cup this year,” PCB chairman was quoted saying.

Will India participate if Asia Cup goes as scheduled?

With India now being one of the finalists for the World Test Championship final, Team India is likely to send a second string team if Asia Cup go as planned. Team India has a packed schedule for 2021. The Men in Blue are not only scheduled to play five-Test matches in England following the World Test Championship finals, they are also set to host the T20 World Cup later this year.

“There’s no other choice. We can’t risk the preparation for the series in England and cricketers can’t twice undergo quarantine. If the Asia Cup happens, India will have no option but to send a second-string squad,” an unnamed source was quoted as saying by TOI.
