While speaking about his experience on playing the practice game with Novak Djokovic ahead of the ATP Finals, Daniil Medvedev revealed that the world number 1 has "much more experience" and that the Serbian's way of thinking is similar to that of his. Medvedev added that playing practice games against his fiercest opponent cannot harm.

“I don’t think that rallying with an opponent will harm you because they can know your weak points. If we thought that, we could only train with a sparring instead of doing it with the best players in the world,” said Medvedev as quoted by EssentiallySports.

“Djokovic has much more experience and thinks the same as me, so it is possible and I would do it over and over again," he added.

Notably, the two have faced each other in two consecutive finals. While Daniil Medvedev upset the the 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic at the US Open 2021, the Serbian won his 37th Masters 1000 title by beating the Russian tennis star.

Friendship between Djokovic and Medvedev can only help the Serbian: Mats Wilander

Sweddish tennis star Mats Wilander feels that the friendship between Djokovic and Medvedev could only help the latter.

"I think this (relationship) is great for Novak in the long run," Wilander said as quoted by Eurosport. "Novak learns a lot about his opponents by practising with them, and I think Daniil is going to learn that Novak is the greatest player of all time by practising with him. So I think it can only help Novak."

"I think Daniil Medvedev has arrived," he said, adding, "He's going to be at the top of the game for the next five or six years, if nothing physical happens to him."
