Tennis fans must be overjoyed after World No.1 Novak Djokovic confirmed that he will participate in the Australian Open at Melbourne Park this month after receiving a medical exemption from getting vaccinated against COVID-19. So far, Djokovic, who kept his COVID vaccination status secret, was unsure about his participation in the Grand Slam due to concerns over Australia's quarantine rules.

Putting all the speculations at rest, the Serbian player posted a heartful note wishing everyone a 'great New Year,' on Instagram and confirmed that he will be participating in the Year's highly-anticipated Tennis tournament. His post read, "I've spent fantastic quality time with my loved ones over the break and today I'm heading Down Under with exemption permission. Let's go 2022."

Notably, Djokovic was training in Marbella over the last few days after having pulled out of the ATP Cup. However, a recent video uploaded by a junior tennis player, Valerie Hafstrom from the Puente Romano Tennis Club, suggests that Novak Djokovic might play in the year's opening Slam. Hafstrom posted a photo with Djokovic as well as a video, where she can be seen wishing the Serb good luck for the 2022 Australian Open. Djokovic can then be heard expressing his gratitude to Hafstrom for her "kind" words.
