In a sudden turn of events, England's top-order batter Joe Root has decided to step down as the captain of England's Test team. The Yorkshireman led the Three Lions in 63 matches. He also holds the record for the most Test wins and losses with 27 wins and 25 losses.

Fans on social media sent out a plethora of messages hailing Joe Root’s captaincy reign and compared the 31-year-old’s decision to Virat Kohli's, who had also stepped down from India’s captaincy. Root became the captain of the England team in 2017 as he took the reins from Alastair Cook.
