In a sudden turn of events, England’s top-order batter Joe Root has decided to step down as the captain of England’s Test team. The Yorkshireman led the Three Lions in 63 matches. He also holds the record for the most Test wins and losses with 27 wins and 25 losses.
Fans on social media sent out a plethora of messages hailing Joe Root’s captaincy reign and compared the 31-year-old’s decision to Virat Kohli’s, who had also stepped down from India’s captaincy. Root became the captain of the England team in 2017 as he took the reins from Alastair Cook.

Well done Root! Superb players these days get unnecessarily caught up in board hassles and extreme scrutiny.

Cheers @root66, be proud of what you achieved as England captain. Now it's time to focus on your own game with no pressure. 🏴

What even is happening, first Virat and now Root. Two of the stalwarts of #testcricket stepping down as captain in the same span of time will do more harm to the game than good but we have to respect both of their decisions. #joeroot𓃵 https://t.co/zkJYSznaZD

Gave it his best until the very end & a great ambassador for the game. Shame he had very little support from his teammates when he was in the form of his life. Carried a lot of the blame in hard times & always held himself extremely well. Top class as always.

Go well, Root! You were unlucky to lead your side during the transition period. Yet won over 20 tests. You were a great leader and you will always be one! All the best on your future as a batter! @root66 #JoeRoot

Only Kane Williamson left as the Test captain from the "Fab 4" of the modern Era.
