Aryna Sabalenka, the world No. 1 from Belarus, who is a three-time defending champion at the Wuhan Open, extended her winning streak to 20 matches in the tournament in China on Friday, October 10. The 27-year-old defeated eighth seed from Kazakhastan, Elena Rybakina, in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, to secure a spot in the semi-final of the Wuhan Open, where she will be facing sixth seed American Jessica Pegula tomorrow.
With that, Aryna Sabalenka has now become the fourth women’s player to win her first 20 matches in the main draw of a WTA tennis tournament since 1990, as per the report published in BBC Sport. The three other women to achieve this in the sport are Monica Seles, who did it at the Australian Open while Steffi Graf and Caroline Wozniacki pulled it off at the Leipzig Open and New Haven Open respectively.
