“Outside attack strengthens our team”: Toto Wolff responds to ‘Mr. Grumpy’ Helmut Marko

The tension seemed to be on the rise when Marko called out Hamilton for ‘putting out a show’ about his injuries after the crash with Verstappen.

Ever since the 2021 Formula 1 season has started, both title protagonists, Mercedes and Red Bull have not enjoyed a good relationship. Be it their drivers – Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen’s latest crash at Monza or Toto Wolff and Helmut Marko. Throughout the course of the current season, there have been numerous digs that the latter pair has taken on each other.

The latest of them being, when the advisor of the Austrian team had called out Niki Lauda, stating that the employee switch from the Brackley-based team would have never taken place if it was for him. To those who are unaware, there have been several employees from Mercedes who have joined Red Bull for their mega engine project during this year.

The spoken interesting signing for Red Bull was Ben Hodgkinson who was Mercedes’ Head of Mechanical Engineering. But now he has become Technical Director at Red Bull. Talking about the same, Marko stated, as per GPBlogs, “We're a cool team where passion comes first. It wouldn't have happened to Mercedes under Niki Lauda; he was closer to his engine people."

The tension seemed to be on the rise when Marko called out Hamilton for ‘putting out a show’ about his injuries after the crash with Verstappen. Before Lauda’s demise, at least Marko and Marko had a common friend to ease things down.

Now it turns out Mercedes team principal has decided to opine upon the same and counter the 78-years-old.

"We are a great team with passion. With Niki Lauda at Mercedes it wouldn't have happened because he was closer to the engine people," Wolff on Red Bull's snatching of staff from Mercedes.

He added, "Mr Grumpy is our strongest weapon. Niki always said: every outside attack strengthens our team."

Having said that, as the 2021 F1 action now moves to Sochi for the Russian Grand Prix, it remains to be seen what drama unfolds between Helmut Marko and Toto Wolff. Knowing that the point difference is think between the two team in the Constructor’s standings, race fans would surely be aware of the catastrophe all set to unravel between the two team in the coming days.
