Peshawar Zalmi had a really disappointing start to their season against the Lahore Qalandars. Batting first, none of their star players got going as they could manage to put up a below average score of 140 on board. Ravi Bopara (50 off 44) was the only positive for the Zalmi side in what was a dismal batting display. Defending the total, captain Wahab Riaz (2/30) and Saqib Mahmood (2/22) did put up a fight but it was just a task too much as Qalandars went on to secure a comfortable 4-wicket victory. The experienced players like Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik will need to step up for Zalmi on Tuesday.
Multan Sultans also suffered a similar fate in their opening match against Islamabad United. Although their skipper Mohammad Rizwan (71 off 53) led from the front, he did not find any support from the other end as they ended their innings on 150. Their all-rounders Shahid Afridi (2/24) and Carlos Brathwaite (2/23) tried their best but United went on to win the match by 3 wickets. While Chris Lynn and James Vince need to deliver in the batting department, Sohail Tanvir will also have a huge responsibility to lead the inexperienced pace attack.
Multan Sultans have always had an upper hand in this fixture. In the 6 meetings between the two sides, Sultans have won 4 and lost only 2 out of them. They defeated Zalmi in both the matches last season and will look to exert their authority.
