In Match No. 4 of the Pakistan T20 League, last season’s runners-up Lahore Qalandars take on Quetta Gladiators, who finished 5th on the points table. While Sohail Akhtar will captain the Qalandars, Gladiators will be led by Sarfaraz Ahmed. Gladiators lost to defending champions Karachi Kings by 7 wickets on the opening day. Lahore Qalandars opened their season with a comfortable 4-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi.
Lahore Qalandars came very close to winning their first PSL title but stumbled at the last hurdle. They lost in the finals against Karachi Kings and finished as runners-up. Fakhar Zaman (325 runs) and Mohammad Hafeez (312 runs) were the stars of their campaign last season and will have a big role to play this season as well. Their pace attack will be led by the newly-appointed vice-captain Shaheen Afridi, who took 17 wickets last season. For the first four seasons, Lahore Qalandars finished in the bottom-half of the table. But last season, they showed what they are capable of and will hope to go one step better this time around.
Quetta Gladiators finished 5th on the points table last season and had a slow start to their campaign after they were beaten comprehensively by Karachi Kings by 7 wickets. Only Chris Gayle impressed for the Gladiators with a 24-ball-39. Rest of the batsmen failed miserably and could not fire their team to a big total. The responsibility will be on skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and Tom Banton to get their team off to a good start.
