FIFA on Monday announced the names of the 11 players who will be in contention for the coveted Puskas Award 2021. The list includes Patrik Schick’s chip scored against Scotland and Erik Lamela’s rabona scored against Tottenham Hotspur FC. Meanwhile, the remarkable bicycle kicks of Luis Diaz and Mehdi Taremi also help them get on the list. While Diaz’s hit had come for Colombia at the Copa America playing against Brazil, that of Taremi came for Porto in the Champions League against Chelsea.

The winner among the overall 11 players will be announced on January 17. It is worth noting that Son Heung-min had claimed the coveted crown in the preceding year. For the unversed, the Puskas award is given to the player (male or female) who is voted to have scored the “best goal” of the year. The winner gets selected by an international jury comprising a panel of FIFA Legends and registered fans from all over the world.
