The second Test between India and Sri Lanka is underway at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After opting to bat first, India put on a decent performance on a track that was doing too much and managed to post 252 on the board. Then they bundled Sri Lanka for a mere 109 and on the second day itself, India started their second innings.

Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal started well with timely boundaries and kept Sri Lanka bowlers at bay. To a struggling side, an injury to one of the performing players was the worst that could happen, and Sri Lanka could not even avoid that. Praveen Jayawickrama, who was complementing Lasith Embuldeniya really well, was injured while fielding in the second innings.

In the seventh over of India’s second innings, Jayawickrama got struck on his right knee while he tried to stop a shot from Rohit Sharma. The ball was timed really well by Sharma as he usually does and thus Jayawickrama suffered a terrible injury. He could not walk and had to be assisted back to the dressing room.

This was a major blow for Sri Lanka who are already way behind in this game as well. After conceding a lead of 143 runs in the first innings, their bowlers are leaking runs in the second. On a pitch that is assisting the spinners, losing Jayawickrama can prove too costly for the Lankans. The onus will now be on Lasith Embuldeniya to trouble the Indian batters.

Talking about Jayawickrama’s performance in this game so far, he claimed three wickets in the first innings. He dismissed Hanum Vihari, well-set Shreyas Iyer, and Mohammad Shami. He was looking agile in the field as well. So, Dimuth Karunaratne will be hoping for him to be fine and will be praying that he returns to play the rest of the game, which looks unlikely as of now.
