Chelsea will host Arsenal at the Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening to resume one of the greatest sporting rivalries in London. While it was Mikel Arteta’s Gunners who finished on top the last time around, a lot has changed ever since. The Blues under Thomas Tuchel, need just four points from their last three games to secure a top-four finish. In addition, Chelsea find themselves in two cup finals and it’s been a remarkable rise for them post they decided to sack Frank Lampard. Meanwhile, the Gunners have struggled for consistency this year and would have to not only win most of their remaining games but hope for other results to go their way if they are to finish in top four. All in all, the stage seems set for a blockbuster of a clash.
As far as Chelsea are concerned, they are likely to rest Mateo Kovacic who sustained a hamstring injury. In addition, Andreas Christensen is also likely to miss out after a muscle pull.
From the Arsenal camp, David Luiz won’t be available for selection owing to injury while Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari will be out as well. However, Kieran Tierney and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could return for the Gunners. . Thomas Partey should also be available with Martin Odegaard likely to replace Emile Smith-Rowe in the starting XI.
Recent form for both the sides present a different story. However, given that it is the all-important London derby there will be added pressure on both Chelsea and Arsenal. The Blues will not be looking to field their best XI with the FA Cup final also coming in a few days time but having said that the problems of the Arsenal defence could be enough for Chelsea to stitch narrow win at their home.
