A Premier League player was arrested on the suspicion of rape on Monday in North London and then was charged with two more allegations of rape. The footballer was being questioned by the police after being arrested from his residence in Barnet over an alleged attack on a woman which was said to have taken place last month.

Now the police have informed that the player has been further arrested on the suspicion of two incidents of rape in 2021 against a different woman before he was set to be bailed to a date next month. The footballer’s name has not been revealed due to legal reasons and his club is yet to make a comment on the incident.

The only information available about the individual is that he is in his late 20s. Also, the alleged victims are also in their 20s. The player was arrested in a 3 am raid before being questioned for at least 15 hours, according to The Sun. The Telegraph reported he spent around 30 hours in custody.

A statement by the Metropolitan Police read, "On July 4, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to the police. It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022."

“While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape that were alleged to have been committed in April and June of 2021 against a different woman in her 20s. He has subsequently been released on bail to a date in August. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing," it added.

Notably, it is also reported that the player’s national team have qualified for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar and he was all set to feature in the lineup. Also, with the new season of the Premier League set to begin on 5 August, it is to be seen if the player will be involved in his club’s matches.
