Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with all medal winners of the Commonwealth Games 2022 at his official residence on Saturday. Ever since the medal winners returned from Birmingham, this was the first opportunity when Prime Minister interacted with the athletes.

Notably, Prime Minister of India kept a close watch on Games 2022 as he used to congratulate Indian athletes after their medal winning performances at the event. While interacting with the Indian athletes on Saturday, Prime Minister congratulated everyone for their spectacular performance in Birmingham and wished them 'great luck' for their future endeavor.

"Nation is proud of your performance. I was talking to Pooja Gehlot after seeing her emotional video and I informed that she does not need to apologize. She is a winner for the country but she should level not stone unturned towards achieving her goal. She should remain honest with her approach and continue to work hard," said Prime Minister.

"If we compare our performance from last time, we paved our way to victory in four new sports. Lawn Balls to Athletics, Indian contingent delivered unprecedented performance and became the source of inspiration for so many youths in our country. We have to further improve our performance in these new sports," he added.

Prime Minister also wished 'great luck' for all those who missed the medal by short margin and suggested them to aim for future competitions and make the nation proud. "We are equally proud of you. You gave your best effort and that's what we expect from you. Medals are not important but putting up great fight should be the priority of every athlete," said PM.

Nearly 200 Indian athletes competed for medals in 16 different disciplines. India finished fourth in the Commonwealth Games 2022 medal tally with 61 medals including 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze.
