Team Mumbai has confirmed that Prithvi Shaw will be returning as the captain of the team in Ranji Trophy knockouts when it starts on June 6. Notably, Ranji Trophy’s league stage was conducted before the commencement of IPL 2022.

Mumbai, Jharkhand, Bengal, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh have qualified for the last-eight stage. Mumbai will take on Uttarakhand in the quarterfinals. The most successful team in the elite domestic tournament will have a lot of expectations when they take the centre stage.

However, Mumbai will miss the services of a few crucial players. Shreyas Iyer will not be able to take part in the knockouts stage, with the batter selected in the national squad for the five-match T20I series against South Africa. Ajinkya Rahane will also be missing the important games as he is recovering from a hamstring injury.

In the absence of two experienced campaigners, the onus will be on the young guns of Mumbai. Prithvi Shaw, who has just recovered from fever will play a crucial role at the top of the order. Yashashwi Jaiswal will also be eager to continue his good form in the red-ball cricket after some good performances for his IPL franchise. Sarfaraz Khan, who had a prolific first half, will hope to continue from where he left off.

As for the bowling attack under Shaw, veteran Dhawal Kulkarni will lead the pack. He will be backed up by fellow pacer Tushar Deshpande and the all-rounder Shams Mulani.
