The ongoing season of Pakistan Super League has suffered another major blow as one of the players has tested positive for COVID-19. PCB confirmed the news on Monday through a tweet.

"A player from one of the sides featuring in this evening’s match has tested positive. The player had showed symptoms two days ago and had been immediately isolated. Members of his side have tested negative while the players of the other side are being tested," tweeted Pakistan Cricket Board ahead of Islamabad United's PSL game against Quetta Gladiators on Monday.

Islamabad United vs Quetta Gladiators delayed

Following the news, the match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators has currently been delayed by at least two hours. As per reports, the player who has tested positive for coronavirus is leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed from Islamabad United.

A fresh round of COVID-19 tests are happening at the players’ hotel. While the members of Islamabad United have already returned negative, they are still awaiting the results of the Gladiators’ camp.

Fawad Ahmed thanked his fans for the kind messages and the prayers as he has been put under isolation. The leg-spinner urged everyone to stay safe amidst the pandemic.

Notably Islamabad United are currently fourth in the points table while Quetta Gladiators are still looking for their first win of the season. As per the latest information, the match is expected to start at IST 9:30 PM.
