One of the most popular battle royale games in India, PUBG Mobile is finally returning to India after a gap of almost one year. The game was banned by Indian government in September 2020, along with other Chinese apps and games. The Indian fans have been waiting for the return of the game since then and have faced quite a lot of disappointments in this period. When the pre-registrations for PUBG: New State got underway two months back, everyone thought that the wait was finally over. However, the registrations were unfortunately not available in India.
But, PUBG Mobile’s parent company – Krafton had assured everyone that they were working on something specifically developed and serviced for India. And guess what, they were not beating around the bush. Recently, a teaser was released which confirmed that PUBG is actually relaunching in the country with an exclusive version which will be named as ‘Battlegrounds Mobile India’.

Game will be relaunched under PUBG Corporation’s own name
Notably, India was the largest market for PUBG with over 175 million downloads (as per SensorTower data) before it got banned because of tensions between India and China. The game is actually quite famous in the country as the Indian players have often been seen participating in various global PUBG leagues.
Because of the ban, PUBG’s developers Krafton had revoked Chinese company’s Tencent’s licence and will actually be relaunching the new game under PUBG Corporation’s own name. “Battlegrounds Mobile India will release with exclusive in-game events like outfits and features and will have its own esports ecosystem with tournaments and leagues. The game will launch as a free-to-play experience on mobile devices,” said Krafton in a press release.
Krafton also added that they will be collaborating with partners to build an esports ecosystem while bringing in-game content regularly, starting with a series of India specific in-game events at launch, to be announced later. While the dates have not yet been revealed, the company will have a pre-registration period before the final launch.
