The World No. 7, PV Sindhu claimed the third title of the season as she defeated China's Wang Zhi Yi in the Singapore Open final on Sunday. This was the maiden BWF Super 500 title for the ace Indian shuttler in the 2022 season so far.

This is the second time these players are facing each other with PV Sindhu winning the first game at the All England Open earlier this year in March by 21-18, 21-13. This is the first title win for the Indian badminton player after the Korea Open title she won in March.

PV Sindhu took the early lead by scoring 13 consecutive points to claim the first game 21-9. However, the 11-ranked Chinese player Wang Zhi Yi made a comeback in the second game by taking a 6-0 lead and finishing the game 21-11. The two finalists were neck and neck for the third game as PV Sindhu powered her way to claim her maiden BWF Super 500 title of 2022 by winning the third set 21-15.

After winning the title, PV Sindhu thanked the audience in Singapore for being supportive and assured them that this is just the start. She said, "Winning this title today, means a lot as this will give me a lot of confidence and will take me on another level. The couple of matches in the starting were easy but each match is important from the start."

Earlier, the 27-year-old two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu won the semifinal match against lower-ranked Japan's Saena Kawakami 21-15, 21-7 in just 31 minutes.
