Quite a gesture from Rohit: Twitter appreciates skipper Rohit Sharma for letting Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan open the innings in 3rd T20I against West Indies

After losing the toss, Rohit Sharma responded to Ian Bishop's question over his opening partner by saying that Ruturaj Gaikwad will be opening along with Ishan Kishan, while he himself will come down the order.

The ongoing 3rd T20I between India and West Indies has started with Kieron Pollard winning the toss and opting to field first. India have already sealed the series by winning the first two T20 Internationals comfortably. As expected, both the teams have made a few changes, with West Indies giving a chance to four of his players while Rohit Sharma bringing in Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer and debutant Avesh Khan into the squad.

After losing the toss, the Hitman responded to broadcaster Ian Bishop’s question over his opening partner by saying that Ruturaj Gaikwad will be opening along with Ishan Kishan, while he himself will come down the order. Earlier, Gaikwad’s exclusion from the squad drew a lot of limelight as the prolific batter has already impressed many with his top-notch batting display in the domestic tournament and previous edition of IPL, 2021. Notably, Gaikwad finished the last IPL edition as an orange cap winner and carried his form in Vijay Hazare Trophy by becoming the top scorer in the domestic tournament.

Rohit Sharma’s decision to let youngsters play in a decisive position and display their skills grabbed a lot of praise from all-around, and netizens were quick to express their delight with the newly appointed skipper.

While, both the batters started off well by playing a couple of cracking shots but it was Ruturaj Gaikwad who departed early by getting was caught at third-point on Holder’s over. He was caught by Kyle Mayers after scoring 8 runs off 4 balls, comprising one boundary.  However, joined by Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan seems to be in great touch as the batter has already hit three boundaries. By the time of submitting the copy, India score reads 27-1 in 4 overs.
