Rahul-Tewatia

Rajasthan Royals' all-rounder Rahul Tewatia has yet again become a talking point. However, this time around it is not for his cricketing skills or performances. In a recent photo going viral on the internet, Tewatia could be seen decked up in formals- a full shirt tucked neatly inside the trousers. What's interesting is that the picture says, " I have a job in the income tax department" with a Rajasthan Royals logo in the top-left corner of the picture.

Notably, Tewatia became a nationwide sensation when he did the unimaginable against the then Kings XI Punjab. While he initially seemed to be struggling at 17 from 23 balls while chasing a record total of over 220, he then smashed five sixes in an over to end at a 31-ball 53. This allowed RR to break its own record for the highest successful IPL run chase. It also made Tewatia a familiar face and a name.

Later Tewatia even earned a maiden India call-up, thanks to his incredible run in the 2020 season in IPL. However, he failed to clear the mandatory fitness requirements to be a part of that dressing room. Nevertheless, his journey from the village of Sihi to that night Sharjah hasn't been easy at all and is in fact testimony enough to Tewatia's hard work and determination.

IPL 2021 could be crucial for Tewatia

While his grandfather was a wrestler and his uncle, Dharamveer, was a hockey player, Tewatia took to cricket and it is this sport itself that has given him everything, including this Income Tax Department job. A regular job implies at least his basic earning is taken care of.

A lot of eyes will be on Tewatia yet again when IPL 2021 resumes in UAE. While the competition was supposed to end in May itself, several coronavirus cases emerged inside the bio-secure bubbles of franchises, which forced the abrupt postponement of the tournament. Now the action shifts back to UAE where the dream came true for Tewatia and he would look to make more contributions like that for his team not only with the bat but also with the ball in hand.
