England pacer Jofra Archer has had a torrid last few months due to his troublesome right elbow. In another major blow to the pacer, he has now suffered a setback in his recovery. Archer underwent surgery on his right elbow in May and he was following an intensive rehabilitation period working with the ECB and Sussex medical teams to ensure a speedy recovery. He even played a game in T20 Blast after which he said that he felt a month away from being fully fit.

Archer was slated to represent the Southern Brave in The Hundred to build up his fitness ahead of the 5-match Test series against India. However, according to the latest reports in English media, Archer could now miss the rest of England’s summer following a setback in his return from an operation on his right elbow. He has not reached the required level of fitness and could undergo surgery again.

Jofra Archer could miss the rest of 2021

It has been learnt that Archer will meet specialists in the next 48 hours to decide the next course of action to recover from the setback. Another surgery is understood to be a possibility, with the issue in Archer's joint more severe than anticipated. As a result, the Rajasthan Royals pacer Jofra Archer is likely to miss the second leg of IPL 2021, scheduled to resume from September 19. Not only that, but the pacer could also miss the Twenty20 World Cup and Ashes.

When did Archer first suffer the injury?

Archer was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right elbow while on a tour of South Africa in January 2020. The Sussex pacer has suffered sporadically since and has missed a lot of cricket due to the troublesome injury. The pacer had missed the IPL 2021 to completely recover from his elbow injury but things have not gone as planned for him. Notably, Archer was named the Indian Premier League’s most valuable player in 2020.
