Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases within the squads, the BCCI has decided to postpone Ranji Trophy indefinitely. The tournament, which was due to start on January 13, will not be played on the scheduled date. Other domestic tournaments such as Col CK Nayudu and senior Women’s T20 League have also been postponed.
"BCCI does not want to compromise the safety of the players, support staff, match officials and other participants involved and hence, has decided to put the three tournaments on hold till further notice. The BCCI will continue to assess the situation and take a call on the start of the tournaments accordingly", read the statement released by BCCI.
Notably, BCCI President had assured a few days back that the tournament will go ahead as planned amid the rising cases. It was later reported that the tournament might be shifted from Mumbai. However, the board has now decided to postpone the tournament, keeping the safety of players and officials in mind.
