Virat Kohli announced his decision to step down as India's Test captain on Saturday and he took the cricketer fraternity by surprise with that announcement. While the news has come as a big shock for fans, there is a big question now that who will become the next captain of Team India in Tests.

Legendary Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar has suggested the name of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for the post. Gavaskar mentioned that he has been impressed with the way Rishabh Pant can shoulder the responsibility of being the Test captain, He even gave the example of Rohit Sharma and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, both who took over a captain at a very young age and went to achieve great success with India and Mumbai Indians respectively.

"Tiger Pataudi was captain at the age of 21 under adverse circumstances when Nari Contractor was injured. Look what he did after that. He took to captaincy like a duck to water. I think what we have seen with Rishabh Pant as the captain of Delhi Capitals in the IPL. I do believe he has the capability of taking Indian cricket forward and making it a very exciting team to watch," Gavaskar said on Saturday.

Now, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has also backed Rishabh Pant to be the Test skipper. Aaj Tak's senior sports editor Vikrant Gupta shared the news that Sunil Gavaskar prefers Rishabh Pant as India's next Test skipper. Yuvraj replied on the same post and wrote, "Absolutely! Reads the game well behind the stumps."

The other frontrunners in the race for the Test captaincy are KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. Rohit was recently appointed the vice-captain of India's Test team but he missed the recently-concluded 3-match series in South Africa due to injury. In Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's absence in the 2nd Test in Johannesburg, KL Rahul had captained India.
