Monaco Grand Prix

Red Bull dominated the Monaco Grand Prix as they sealed two of the top-three spots on Sunday. While Sergio Perez clinched the Monaco Grand Prix at the Circuit de Monaco, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished second, it was Perez’ teammate Max Vertsappen who finished third to complete the podium.

Mercedes’ disappointing season continued as George Russell finished fifth while Lewis Hamilton finished eighth.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who had started on pole after topping the qualifying on Saturday, eventually finished fourth as his team seemed to have out have been outwitted as Leclerc was overtaken by the Red Bull duo in the pitstop.

Despite his fourth finish, there is something positive to look at as the 24-year-old became the first Monegasque to score in Monaco since Louis Chiron finished third in 1950.

“This is us! Come on, vamos,” Perez said as he crossed the finish line. Notably, the Mexico-born racer finished 1.1 seconds ahead of Sainz.

“It’s a dream come true. After your home race it’s the most special race to win,” he added.

The race also witnessed a shocking accident on a wet Monaco GP as Haas F1 driver Mick Schumacher’s car plit in half following a crash. However, the driver was quite fortunately unharmed. Notably, the racers had switched from the wet tyres to the dry tyres which was when Schumacher lost control and hit the wall near the swimming pool section of the track.

A glimpse at the 2022 driver standings after the Monaco GP confirms Verstappen as the leader with 125 points. Leclerc is second with 116 points while the Monaco GP winner Perez is placed number 3 with 110 points.
