Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has now revealed the story of the bat with which he smashed two consecutive centuries in the ODI series. He stated that the bat was gifted by senior batsman Mohammad Hafeez during the recent ODI series against South Africa. The southpaw played a key role in powering his side to a memorable 2-1 win, hitting two consecutive hundreds. This was only the second ODI series win for Pakistan in the rainbow nation after their 2013 effort.

The series saw Zaman score the highest individual total while chasing an innings. He single handedly managed to give the Proteas a scare in the second ODI as he smashed 193. Zaman followed that innings by yet another hundred, scoring 101 in the final ODI at Centurion. The Babar Azam-led side won the first ODI and then clinched the final clash to take the trophy home.

"The bat that I used in the series was gifted to me by Mohammad Hafeez,” Zaman said addressing a press conference on Thursday.

Got selected in the T20I squad

After a Player of the Series performance in the ODIs, Zaman earned a selection in the T20I squad. The 30-year-old said that he was excited to open along with Sharjeel Khan.

"It would be great if I can open with Sharjeel during the upcoming T20I matches against South Africa and Zimbabwe," he said.

"I would feel really good if I get the opportunity to bat alongside him. He makes cricket look very easy. So, let’s see what happens going forward," Zaman quoted, before saying "I can play at any position they ask me to bat on. Nowadays in T20 cricket, you have to develop a mindset to be someone who can float in the batting order.”
