One of the hottest prospects over the past few years in Indian cricket has been wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant. After receiving a lot of criticism for his attitude during the early stages of his career, the youngster has now managed to cement his place in the Indian team in all three formats. The Delhi boy is one of the first names on the team sheet for skipper Virat Kohli.
Pant received a lot of heat in the initial part of his career, especially for his wicket-keeping skills. But after those criticisms, the southpaw took the positives out of it and worked hard on his keeping alongside his batting. Still only 23, Rishabh has already established his name in international cricket and has a long way to go in his career.
Pant has proved he is a match-winner: Yuvraj Singh
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh believes the young wicket-keeper has proved himself as a match-winner and has matured with his age. Pant played some crucial innings on the tour to Australia at the start of the year and helped India create history down under. He notched scores of 97 and 89 in the final two Tests to win India the series 2-1. “Rishabh has proven he is a match-winner. In tough conditions like Australia, the way he batted and the way he got a brilliant hundred against England as well. He is probably a key player in the middle-order,” said Yuvraj.
Rishabh captained Delhi Capitals for the first time in IPL 2021
Pant replaced Shreyas Iyer as the captain of the Delhi Capitals after the latter injured his shoulder just before the season. His performance as a skipper pleased Yuvraj a lot and the former cricketer thinks Pant has all the attributes to captain the country in the future. “I see Rishabh as a potential Indian captain in the future. Because he is jumpy, chirpy and talks around. But I feel he surely has a smart brain as well because I saw him when he was captaining in the IPL for Delhi Capitals. He did an incredible job. So people should look at him as the next captain of the Indian team in the coming years,” concluded Yuvraj.
