Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer has unfortunately dropped further down in the latest ATP Rankings post the conclusion of Miami Open 2021. Federer, whose highly-anticipated return in Qatar Open was cut short after a loss in quarter-finals, had lost his place in Top 5 to Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 39-year-old has now notably become the only player in Top 10 who has suffered another dip in latest rankings as Alexander Zverev moves up to take his spot.

Roger drops down to 7th spot

As per ATP's new rule, the players would now lose 50 percent of their 2019 points if they don’t improve on that in 2021. Federer had notably earned 1000 points in Miami Open 2019 after winning the title. However, his absence this year meant that his points saw a huge fall from 6375 to 5875. On the other hand, Alexander Zverev also earned only 55 points in the tournament after he got eliminated in the second round at the hands of Emil Ruusuvuori. However, it was enough for him to take the 6th spot in the rankings as he went past Federer with 6125 points.

Medvedev increases gap on Nadal

Although Daniil Medvedev faced a shocking exit from Miami Open after losing out in the quarter finals to Bautista Agut, it was enough for him to cross the 10k point milestone. With 10,030 points, the Russian has now gone 360 points ahead of Rafael Nadal, who has 9670 points. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic sits comfortably at the top of summit with an incredible 11963 points, way ahead than the others. With the clay season set to begin, it will be interesting to see if there are any further changes.
