The tournament has returned after two years as 2020 edition was postponed due to the global pandemic. Notably, it is the 140th edition of men's tournament and is categorized as Masters 1000 tournament on 2021 ATP Tour. On the other hand, it is the 129th edition of women's tournament and is part of 2021 WTA Tour and WTA 1000 tournament.
